Krank Golf Adjustable Mini Driver
Krank Golf has introduced a great new club for 2025 for those of you looking for a fairway finder off the tee.
The Krank Mini Driver head is a smaller version of their Fire X long drive club designed to be played at 44” to make it easier to control off the tee. Mini Drivers are typically just a bit shorter than a standard driver but straighter and easier to hit.
Features (from Krank)
Super-Hot Forged Beta Titanium Face: Engineered for unmatched strength and elasticity, allowing maximum energy transfer for increased ball speed and distance. Over 4 times harder than cast driver faces.
Deep-Cupped Face: Optimized for power and accuracy, providing a larger sweet spot and improved forgiveness on off-center hits.
Optimized 8.5x8.5 Bulge and Roll: Our meticulously engineered face curvature corrects mishits, reducing side spin and delivering straighter, more predictable ball flights.
Micro CNC Milling: To refine the face even further, maximizing the spring effect to give you faster recovery and higher launch on every drive.
Maximum Energy Transfer (MET) Technology: increases ball speed but also improves spin control, directional control, and overall energy storage, ensuring maximum performance on every swing.
Air Flow Stabilizers: Directs airflow over the crown for increased stability on swing path and increases club head speed.
Dual Weight Port System: significantly reduces lateral and angular spin, minimizing ball curvature for straighter drives.
Heel and Toe Louvers: Enhance strength and stability for straighter shots, even on off-center strikes.
Tri-Sleeve Adapter: Allows for maximum adjustment without turning the shaft in the driver.
Specifications: 44” playing length, 305cc volume, 206g head weight, 44mm face height (about 1.75” or about 1/4” deeper face than many fairway woods). 11.5 loft, adjustable -1 degree and +2 degree.
Price is $350 with the Wave shaft upgrade, can be built with about any shaft made. Send me a note to order. Available component head only if you like to build your own for $250. Includes head cover and wrench.
Bryson DeChambeau’s Driver for Seniors?
Bryson has a new driver coming out but it looks like he’s still playing his trusty Krank driver in tournaments.
I’ve written about Bryson Dechambeau’s testimonials and success after switching to the Krank Fire drivers.
I’ve also received some nice testimonials from Clubmaker Report golfers that have purchased the Krank Fire X or Fire XX driver with the Wave shaft upgrade.
Here a recent one:
After three mishits the driver gave me the 15 yards I was hoping for, although I think I will get a few more once the tempo readjusts to the Wave. The Krank 5 wood didn’t need any adjustment period for distance, but since it is about an inch longer than my Tour Edge 722 the direction is a little off. They are beautiful. Thank you, J.
I also can hotrod your Krank driver if you purchased one with the stock shaft and it didn’t work out for you. Here’s a note from a guy who did this:
-hi john. so far so good. really liked the shaft my partner will be trying it on Sat. (his partner just ordered the Wave upgrade, too).
Bryson DeChambeau switched to a Krank driver last year and since switching to the Krank Fire drivers Bryson has two LIV victories, his Crushers team won the season team title for the 2023 LIV Tour. He posted a 5th in the 2024 Masters after leading for the first two days, and a second place finish in the PGA Championship, and a win in the 2024 US Open. Not bad.
How can a driver that works for a player that hit the ball 375 yards + work for a slower to average swinging golfer?
Krank drivers are built for individual swing speeds. Bryson’s is for the heavy hitting crowd. They also make some super flex face drivers for slower swing speeds. Info on the Krank drivers is below.
The story with this driver is that Bryson Dechambeau switched to this driver and notched his first LIV victory carding a 58.
He raved about the new driver, here’s what he said in Golf Monthly:
"Yeah, I plead the Fifth," stated DeChambeau when asked about whether he had been using a new driver. "It's a great driver. It's won a bunch of World Long Drive Championships, and it's performed the best -- it's performed -- how do I say this? It's probably performed the best I've ever had in the past five years in professional golf for me, ever since 2018 when I was striping it early in the year."
He went on to add: "This driver is definitely -- I don't want to say too much. It's fantastic for anyone that's over 175 ball speed (the Fire Pro Model-Ed). -- Ever since I put this driver into play, it's not been really my golf swing. It's just hit on the toe, hit on the heel, everything comes back down the middle of the fairway, and I'm like, all right, let's go, pick up the tee and let's go. The driver has been really nice. It's allowed me to have some time to myself after rounds instead of going and working my butt off all the time."
The Krank Fire driver is designed to be matched up by swingspeed. The major OEM drivers are designed to maximize distance performance for 100 mph+ swingspeed golfers. The conforming Krank Fire Pro model is used by most of the long drive competitors (and Bryson) with swingspeeds of 135 mph + . It’s trampoline effect number is 257.
The Krank Fire XX and Fire X drivers have very thin faces for slower swing speeds.
The non-conforming Krank Fire XX head is for swing speeds below 80 mph and for golfers that drive under 200 yards. The trampoline effect number for this head is 400 (higher number=higher trampoline/face rebound).
The Fire XX for <200 yard golfers has a CT of 400 (vs. 257 for conforming)! That’s super thin and gives the best rebound effect for senior and slower swing golfers with slower than 80 mph swing speeds.
The Fire X is for golfers with 80-105 swing speeds and driving distance of 200-260 yards. Fire X is also non-conforming with a CT of 340 (vs. 257 for conforming). The face is also very thin and with the perfect rebound for average swingspeed golfers.
The Fire Pro is for golfers with 105+ swing speeds and drives 260-350+ yards. The CT is conforming and is 257.
I’m matching up the Krank Fire X drivers, Fire XX, and Pro with the Hiskei Wave shaft upgrade.
Many of you know about the Wave shaft performance. Our friends at MyGolfSpy tested it and got a distance increase of 6.31 yards and a reduced distance from the target line of 2.77 yards (they said “is this really happening??”).
I’m doing a special price at $399 plus shipping with the Hiskei Wave shaft upgrade (to match the Krank sale price with their stock shaft)). Regular price from Krank is $549.
I also have a supply of the AJ Tech 4060 Duratron shafts that are excellent for seniors and women golfers with slower swing speeds.
The lightweight AJ 4060 with the “fade to plum” finish is a great match with the Krank head. It’s very flexible (a soft A flex) and with the extreme trampoline face on the Krank Fire XX head will help get you more distance. I’m playing the R flex fade to plum and it’s a fantastic shaft. I like either the 12 degree Fire XX or the 14 Degree Fire XX (adjustable -1 degree/+2 degree loft).
I built one for my customers wife with the 4060 “fade to plum” shaft and she loves it. Great for anyone with a slower swingspeed. After playing the driver she ordered a matching 5 wood and he’s going with a Krank driver and a Wave shaft.
I can also build it with about any shaft you like. Send me a note for help choosing the correct flex. The Wave shaft plays about one flex softer in the Krank head. Playing length is 45.5”. The head is adjustable for -1 to +2 degree loft and includes a nice headcover and a wrench. Available lofts are 9, 10.5, 12, and 14 degrees. I can also get Krank shaft sleeves if you already own a Krank driver and want to try the Wave shaft or experiment with other shafts. I can sell the head as a component but their MAP price is $349 for the head only so it’s worth it to get the head/shaft combo.
I match any sale price Krank is doing and incorporate that into my pricing with the Wave shaft upgrade. Krank uses a “made for” Fujikura shaft and I offer hard to find, premium shafts in the Krank drivers I build. I also like to focus on senior/average swing golfers that the Krank driver can help find lost distance, but can build for any swingspeed.
Send me a note for help choosing the right shaft/flex and for order information.
LA Golf
Excited to have added the LA Golf lineup of premium shafts and putters, to my catalog. I can get everything they offer but will focus on the excellent Gold Series on this first post.
LA Golf bought Matrix Composites a few years ago and they use Matrix 16 sided HD tooling and technology in their shafts. It’s the same HD tech used in the Matrix Ozik and their other premium shafts.

The Gold series adds boron for superior feel and performance. Al Jackson from AJ Tech worked with Matrix for a while and helped them with his expertise in using boron in carbon fiber shafts. Boron enhances the shaft's durability without adding extra weight, one of the issues with carbon fiber. I see that longtime shaft designer Jeff Meyer is on their team as Chief Design officer. Al (AJ) always spoke highly of Jeff and his skill as a designer (AJ didn’t dish out too many compliments to other shaft designers). Jeff worked at Titleist for a long time and also has his own performance composites company.
Here’s their information on the HD/Boron Gold shafts:
The Boron layer in this shaft offers unparalleled smoothness and stability under compression, enhancing the strength of traditional carbon fiber for superior feel and consistency on the course, setting a new gold standard in golf technology.
The combination of HD technology and Boron generates an exceptional experience through the swing. This is the smoothest feel of any shaft from LA GOLF.
This shaft delivers high launch and mid spin, ideal for golfers seeking enhanced accuracy and distance.
The LA Golf Gold series comes in 45/55/65/75 weights and are priced at $350 for the shaft (add $40 for OEM sleeve/install). I can also use these to build a Krank driver (or any other driver I build). Send me a note to order.
LA Golf has a non-boron model at $299 which I’ll write about next time. They’re great shafts but I’d highly recommend the boron upgrade.
LA Golf also has an interesting putter lineup. They bought SIK golf and use their patented Descending Loft Face Technology in their putters that features four descending degrees of loft to solve for consistency with launch angles and yields more predictable rolls.
The putter features a carbon steel head and a special super low torque shaft for added control. Bryson Dechambeau uses this technology in his putter. The price for their putters is $449 and $599 for the Armlock models. Send me a note to order.
The LA Golf graphite iron shafts are also excellent. Made with their HD Technology and available in two models. The A series is $99 and a .370 parallel tip design in weights from 45-105 grams.
The L Series is a taper tip/.355 model to reshaft most OEM irons. Price is $125 and they are very low torque at 1.3/1.4. They’re similar to steel weight at 125g with the shock absorbing benefits of graphite.
Send me a note to help choose/order.

They make drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, forged irons and wedges, a huge line of putters, and graphite shafts for drivers, fairway, hybrids, and irons. All in A/R/Firm/Stiff flexes. Most are lightweight low torque and made from the same premium materials as the $350+ major shaft brands. Click here for the Hiskei Component Catalog PDF This will take you to my dropbox where you can save the catalog for future review.
I write a lot about their Wave shaft and ultra light but they also make a great lightweight hybrid shaft, several graphite iron shaft models, and many other driver/wood shafts at different weights and profiles.
Hiskei’s parent company also makes a full line of assembled clubs that I can get for you. Most I can buy and customize with your choice of shafts, though their included OEM shafts are excellent.
